BluBand™
(radio frequency monitoring equipment)
BluBand™ is a radio frequency (RF) transceiver that interfaces with BluHome™, the home unit that transmits monitoring data to VeriTracks®. Traditional RF monitoring devices only transmit to a receiving station. BluBand™, however, can also receive communication from BluHome™ regarding the condition of the RF signal.
Together BluBand™ and BluHome™ record the date and time whenever the offender enters and exits his or her home. When BluHome™ does not call into VeriTracks® to confirm an offender’s timely entrance or exit, the violation is recorded by VeriTracks®, which then generates a notification and forwards it the supervising officer. BluHome™ transmits monitoring data to VeriTracks® using analog/landline or digital telephone service in the offender’s home or through cellular telephone service.
BluBand™ is approximately 1.25” x 2.25” x .05” and weighs around two ounces. The device secures to an offender’s ankle with a fiber optic cable-lined strap, which detects if an offender has cut, stretched or pulled on it. If that should happen, the device records and stores the event until the offender enters the BluHome™ RF signal range.
If a strap tamper occurs, BluBand™ records and stores the event until the offender enters the BluHome™ RF signal range. BluBand™ also automatically clears the tamper event. However, the event remains open in VeriTracks® and appears on the supervising officer’s Daily Summary Report until it is closed.
The strap, which is the same one used for BluTag®, attaches to the transceiver with two pins. If an offender attempts to disengage the device from his or her ankle by pulling on the strap at the connection point, the pins break. If the tamper occurred outside the RF signal range of BluHome™, BluBand™ records that a tamper event occurred. If the tamper occurred while the offender was inside the RF signal range of BluHome™, the unit records the date and time of the event and transmits the data to VeriTracks®.
